TIPAT meet-up in Leiden

After many online meetings, we organized a meet-up in Leiden as soon as it was safe to do so. After such a long time of meeting online, we first got to know each other in real life. We did this while exploring the city. We learned about medicinal plants on our tour of the Hortus Botanicus Leiden, and about the history of Leiden during a canal tour. Then it was time for more serious business. We followed an amazing workshop on scientific visualization by Robert van Sluis and the annual meeting of the supervisors took place.

The next day started with the symposium ‘Biomarkers for personalized antimicrobial treatment strategies’ organized by Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research as part of the ZonMw ABR program and the TIPAT consortium. Of course our ESRs also presented their research during a poster presentation. You can read more about our meet-up in Leiden here

Congresses

The TIPAT consortium attends multiple congresses across Europe. In April, we attended both QSPC2022 and ECCMID2022. At ECCMID2022, the TIPAT ESRs had the opportunity to present their work. Maria Sanz Codina (ESR01), Mark Grevsen Martinet (ESR05), Duc Pham (ESR06) and Wisse van Os (ESR08) gave interesting poster presentations and Reza Gheitasi (ESR13) presented his work during an oral presentation.

Outreach activities

We try to share our research not only with the scientific community but also with a broader public. To that aim, we organize multiple outreach activities aimed at multiple audiences. Below, you can find an overview of the outreach activities that have taken place so far.

Long Night of Sciences 2022

More than 2,200 people joined us at Center for Applied Research of the University of Jena for the Long Night of Sciences 2022. Amidst was our TIPAT ESR Reza Gheitasi. He was involved in organizing the Exit-Game „on the trail of bacteria“ presented by Institute of Infectious Diseases and Infection Control of Jena University Hospital. Here you see him among associated TIPAT corporate partners from the field of diagnostics and therapy InfectoGnostics Research Campus Jena trying out AMR diagnostics and discussing targeted antibiotic therapy. The activities included also a citizen survey on rapid testing and many more.

Antibiotics game

At the start of the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week, TIPAT organized workshops at primary schools in Leiden to raise awareness and understanding about antibiotics. You can read more about this workshop here (in Dutch).
